Social Networking at Workplace
In recent years, the Internet and specially the Web has brought about a communication revolution; the ability to send and recover information everywhere was never this easy and has changed the way we work and live. Social networking portals are a new movement. Social networks are constructed on the basis of the theory that there is a predictable and determinable pattern to how people know each other, whether directly or indirectly.
Although social networking technology has eased the ways of working in an organization, it also facilitates the human needs that are essential for distributed ways of working to succeed. Many businesses have increasingly adopted a virtual approach to workspace and the internet technology has blurred the traditional distinctions between work stations and office buildings. Nowadays work can be implemented from anywhere. So now office rather than being a place just for work is now increasingly becoming a chance for employees to indicate their personal involvement in the betterment of the organizational culture and to participate in the values and beliefs of the organization.

Social networking can empower employees by sharing content, material and knowledge, freely, which was not possible in big corporations. Consequently, it also has the potential to empower public sector. Social networking tools provide some opportunity for people to share their interest and activities. The use of social networking tools helps to interact with colleagues and share knowledge and resources in search of problem solving that cannot be generated with any one of those ingredients alone.
Apart from several advantages that social networking offers to the workplace there are many downsides to the use and access of social networking platform at the workplace, which will be discussed in the next article.
